Liverpool step up van Dijk interest

Liverpool are to step up their interest in Virgil van Dijk.

According to a report in The Mirror Liverpool are ready to play the Klopp card to convince the Southampton defender to make the move to Anfield.

Chelsea and Manchester City have been the clear favourites to sign van Dijk with Arsenal’s prospects declining after they failed to win a Champions League place.

Liverpool appear to have been given encouragement to step up their interest with the suggestion that the Dutchman would like to work with Jurgen Klopp and the prospect of Liverpool being one qualifier away from playing in the Champions League.

Southampton have stated that they don’t have to sell van Dijk but an offer of £50m plus £200,000/week and Champions League football for the player would be hard to resist.

Van Dijk is on a long term contract at St Mary’s but it’s unlikely that he’ll be at Southampton when the summer transfer window closes.
