Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are stepping up their interest in Roma winger Mohamed Salah, with talks already underway about bringing the Egyptian to Anfield, according to The Liverpool Echo.
The 24-year-old enjoyed a sparkling campaign with the Serie A giants this term, netting 15 goals and laying on 11 assists, just one assist fewer than the league-high set by Napoli’s Jose Callejon, to help the club to second in the table, just four points behind champions Juventus.
English football fans will remember the winger for his testing time at Chelsea a few years ago, with Salah moving to Stamford Bridge in 2014 for £11 million, yet struggling to just 19 appearances for the Blues before moving on loan to first Fiorentina and then Roma in 2015.
He then signed a permanent deal at the Stadio Olimpico last summer and has seriously impressed, so much so that Klopp’s Liverpool are reportedly hoping to bring him back to the Premier League this summer.
The Reds are reportedly in talks with the Italian outfit over a potential deal for Salah, who rejected a move to Anfield back in 2014 before signing for Premier League rivals Chelsea.
Clearly, Klopp is on the lookout for attacking reinforcements given that his side will be competing in the Champions League next term, should they get through their play-off round in August.
And for the Merseyside outfit to compete on both domestic and European fronts next season, they will simply have to improve and reinforce the squad, and signing £25.5 million-rated Salah (as per Transfermarkt) would certainly go some way to doing just that.
