Liverpool will reportedly rival Manchester City in a bid to sign Gabon international superstar Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to The Sun.

The Premier League side, who dropped down to fifth in the league standings at the weekend following a surprise 2-0 defeat away at Hull City, have been linked with luring Borussia Dortmund’s star striker to Anfield this summer.

The 27-year-old, who featured for Gabon at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations last month, has remarkably netted 21 times in 24 games in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit so far this season.

Aubameyang, who is also a top transfer target for La Liga giants Real Madrid, is wanted by City boss Pep Guardiola if the club choose to sell Argentine Sergio Aguero.

However, it appears Reds manager Jurgen Klopp will battle Guardiola for the Gabonese ace, with the German lining up a £40m offer for the Dortmund forward, partially funded by the potential sale of England international Daniel Sturridge.

Aubameyang has netted 71 league goals in just 113 Bundesliga appearances for Dortmund.
