Manchester City face Italian side Palermo in a pre-season friendly on August 9.

The Citizens’ preparations for the upcoming season have been slightly delayed by their involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup earlier this summer, but they will face their Italian opponents before beginning the Premier League season with a game against Wolves at Molineux.

Pep Guardiola’s side endured a disappointing campaign last term and ultimately finished third in the Premier League table.

City were unable to win the top flight title for a record fifth consecutive year after a dismal run of results earlier in the season, although their form late in the campaign helped them secure Champions League qualification.

The Manchester club have already signed five players so far this summer, including Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki and Rayan Air-Nouri.

Now, it appears that one of City’s most high profile players is attracting interest from a Premier League rival.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Premier League side Everton are interested in Man City winger Jack Grealish.

The 29-year-old became the first £100 million British player in history when he joined City from boyhood club Aston Villa back in 2021.

Grealish was a key player for City during his first two seasons in Manchester, helping Guardiola’s side to win a remarkable treble in 2023.

He has fallen somewhat out of favour at The Etihad over the past 18 months, though, and started just seven of City’s 38 Premier League matches last term.

In total the winger has scored 17 goals and registered 23 assists in 157 games for the Citizens across all competitions.

Jacobs claims that the Toffees are interested in signing the England international although they are seeking a loan move for the player and are unlikely to consider a permanent signing unless Grealish significantly lowers his wage demands.

The Englishman is under contract at The Etihad until the end of the 2026/27 season.
