Manchester City face Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s side have endured a disappointing season so far and are yet to win a trophy this term, although they go into Saturday’s showpiece as overwhelming favourites.

Palace, meanwhile, have never won a major trophy and will be buoyed by City’s below-par performances this term.

In the meantime, it has emerged that City are working on a deal to sign one of Europe’s most sought after midfielders.

According to Football Insider, the Citizens are closing in on an agreement to sign AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders.

The 26-year-old has been hugely impressive for Milan this season, but his displays haven’t gone unnoticed and the Italian side may therefore have to fend off significant interest in the player this summer.

Reijnders joined Milan from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in 2023 and has since played more than 100 times for his current side across all competitions.

In March, the Dutchman signed a new contract with Milan that is set to run until the end of the 2029/30 campaign, which puts the Italian outfit in a commanding position during any potential negotiations with other clubs.

Milan could miss out on a place in next season’s Champions League due to their poor performances in Serie A this term, and the report suggests that City could look to take advantage of that situation.

City are set to be on the hunt for a new midfielder to bolster Guardiola’s squad, with the Citizens having struggled this term after key player Rodri suffered a season-ending injury in the opening weeks of the campaign.

It is also claimed that the player’s contract situation initially deterred City from moving to sign Reijnders in January.
