Manchester City boosted their chances of finishing in the top five of the Premier League this season by beating a resolute Everton 2-0 on Saturday.

The Citizens are enduring a difficult season but have improved somewhat of late and victory at Goodison Park moved City to fourth in the top flight table, with the top five set to qualify for the Champions League next term.

The Toffees defended impressively on Saturday, but late goals from Nico O’Reilly and Mateo Kovacic earned Pep Guardiola’s side a crucial victory.

This summer is set to be a busy one at The Etihad, most notably with influential midfielder Kevin De Bruyne set to depart.

Now, though, it has emerged that City are preparing for the potential departure of another key player.

According to Football Insider, City are plotting a move for a new goalkeeper that will fill the position in the long-term.

Ederson could leave Manchester City this summer

The report claims that the Citizens are on the hunt for a new first choice ‘keeper, with uncertainty surrounding the respective futures of their current goalkeepers.

Ederson and Stefan Ortega, 31 and 32 respectively, are both set to be out of contract at the end of next season and have been therefore been linked with moves away from the club.

Saudi Arabian clubs Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad are said to be showing particular interest in Ederson, who has been City’s first choice ‘keeper for the past seven seasons.

Ederson joined City in 2017 and has since played 365 games for the club across all competitions, keeping 164 clean sheets.

It is claimed that those in charge of City’s recruitment are assessing potential targets for the goalkeeping department, with the focus being on identifying a suitable candidate that could fulfil the role for several seasons.
