Manchester City know that a victory over Club Brugge in their final Champions League group phase game on Wednesday will almost certainly guarantee their place in the play-offs for the last 16 of the competition.
The Citizens currently sit 25th in the 36-team table and must win to stay in the competition, with a draw or defeat meaning they will drop out at the first stage.
If they do win, Pep Guardiola’s side will qualify for the play-offs as they currently sit three points behind Club Brugge, who have a worse goal difference.
While Guardiola will have expected his side to qualify automatically for the last 16 of the competition, the Spaniard will be desperate to ensure they reach the play-offs and keep alive their hopes of winning the trophy.
Off the pitch, the end of the January transfer window is fast approaching, and it appears that City are on the hunt for a new full-back.
According to Football Insider, the Citizens have made Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso a target for the final week of the current window.
Left-back has been something of a problem area for City for some time now and, with right-back Kyle Walker having joined AC Milan on loan, City are eyeing a move for the versatile Cambiaso.

The 24-year-old primarily plays as a left-back but is also capable of operating on the right of defence, and it is claimed that City are keeping tabs on the player.
Cambiaso joined Juventus from Genoa in 2022 and has since spent time on loan at fellow Italian side Bologna.
In total he has played 67 times for the Old Lady – including 28 matches this term – and the report suggests that Juventus are reluctant to allow him to leave midway through the season and have therefore put a price tag of £50-60 million on the player.
The report therefore claims that a deal for the versatile defender ‘won’t be easy to do’ this month, despite City’s interest in the 13-time Italy international.
