Spain will hope to pick up their first win of the World Cup when they face Saudi Arabia on Sunday afternoon.
Luis de la Fuente’s European champions were frustrated by Cape Verde in their group stage opener, with the African minnows holding the Spaniards to a goalless draw.
Spain therefore sit third in group H, although victory over the Saudis will lift them to top spot.
Ahead of the game, it has emerged that one member of Spain’s squad could leave his current club in the not too distant future.
As per journalist Fabrizio Romano, midfielder Rodri has been offered a new contract by Manchester City but an agreement has not yet been reached.
It is claimed that the Spanish midfielder is currently assessing his options and has put the deal on stand-by for now, with his current contract at The Etihad set to expire at the end of next season.
Rodri, 29, joined the Citizens from Spanish giants Atletico Madrid back in 2019 and has since made 298 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 28 goals and providing 32 assists.
Last term he featured 33 times for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions, although he did suffer from a hamstring injury early in the campaign.
The midfielder has won 13 trophies during his time in Manchester – including the Champions League and four Premier League titles – and in 2024 he won the Ballon d’Or.
Rodri’s current deal is set to expire at the end of next season and, while City offered him a new deal in recent months, no agreement has yet been reached.
Having featured in Spain’s disappointing 0-0 draw against Cape Verde, Rodri is also in line to start against Saudi Arabia in Atlanta, Georgia.
