The World Cup got underway in emphatic fashion on Thursday as Mexico beat South Africa in a match that featured three red cards.

Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez were on target for the co-hosts in Mexico City, although Cesar Montes was sent off late on for the victors after South Africa had seen both Yaya Sithole and Themba Zwane dismissed.

The group stages continue over the weekend, with Brazil v Morocco on Saturday night arguably the pick of the matches.

Euro 2024 winners Spain are one of the favourites to win the tournament, having won the World Cup for the one and only time back in 2010.

Now, it appears that one member of their star-studded squad is on the radar of several Premier League clubs.

As per Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool are all interested in Spain winger Nico Williams.

The report claims that the trio of Premier League clubs are all in the race to land the Athletic Club star, who faces a race to be fit for Spain’s World Cup opener against Cape Verde on Monday.

Williams, 23, is a product of the Basque side’s youth system and has played 199 times for the club in all competitions, scoring 37 goals and registering the same number of assists.

During was one of the stars of Euro 2024, scoring twice as Spain lifted the trophy in Germany.

The report suggests that Williams himself is keen to secure a move to England, as he views the Premier League as the ideal place to take the next step in his career.

Athletic Club are understandably reluctant to allow the player to depart, however, and are in a commanding position as the winger has almost a decade remaining on his current contract.
