Manchester United took a huge step towards reaching the Europa League final as they beat Spanish side Athletic Bilbao 3-0 on Thursday night.

The Red Devils arrived in the Basque Country off the back of a disappointing 1-1 draw against Bournemouth in their last outing, but veteran midfielder Casemiro put them ahead on the half hour mark.

Bruno Fernandes then doubled their advantage from the penalty spot, before adding his second and United’s third on the strike of half-time.

United will now take a huge advantage into the second leg of the tie at Old Trafford next week, with Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur possibly awaiting them if they are to reach the final.

Off the pitch it appears there is more good news for United, with the club close to agreeing terms with one of the stars of the Premier League season so far.

According to CaughtOffside, the Manchester outfit are closing in on a verbal agreement with Wolves forward Matheus Cunha ahead of a possible transfer this summer.

Cunha is reportedly close to agreeing terms with Manchester United

The 25-year-old has been impressive this term, scoring 17 times in 32 games across all competitions for Wolves.

That form has attracted interest from Man United, and the report claims that the Red Devils are edging closer to an agreement after tabling a lucrative offer to the player.

Cunha joined Wolves from Spanish side Atletico Madrid in 2023 and has since played 88 times for the Midlands outfit, scoring 33 goals and providing 15 assists.

He is under contract until the end of the 2028/29 campaign after signing a new deal last year, but the Brazilian has been heavily linked with a move away from Molineux this summer.

It is claimed that United have offered Cunha a contract that would double his current wages, amid interest from other clubs including Arsenal.
