Manchester United’s Premier League campaign went from bad to worse on Sunday as they were beaten 2-0 by West Ham United at Old Trafford.

Goals from Tomas Soucek and Jarrod Bowen earned the Hammers a memorable victory in Manchester, inflicting a 17th defeat of the league season so far on Ruben Amorim’s side.

The result leaves United 16th in the Premier League table, although they can still qualify for the Champions League next term by beating Tottenham Hotspur in the final of the Europa League later this month.

Off the pitch, it appears that the Red Devils are confident about their chances of beating one of their fiercest rivals to the signing of a Premier League striker.

According to TBR Football, United believe that Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap favours a move to Old Trafford over a proposed switch to Chelsea.

Delap, 22, joined the Tractor Boys from Manchester City last summer and has enjoyed an impressive debut campaign at Portman Road.

In total the Englishman has netted 12 times in 38 games for the club across all competitions, but he was unable to prevent Kieran McKenna’s side from being relegated straight back down to the Championship.

It is claimed that United’s technical director, Jason Wilcox, has been working hard on a potential deal for the young English striker, who is set to be available for just £30 million during this summer’s transfer window.

Other members of the United hierarchy are said to favour the likes of Victor Osimhen or Viktor Gyokeres to bolster Amorim’s front line, however Delap could prove a more affordable option.

Amorim is keen to add to his attacking options this summer with both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee having struggled in front of goal this term.
