Man United could lure these 2 Man City players to Old Trafford in January

Manchester United have endured a frustrating start to Jose Mourinho’s tenure at Old Trafford.

The Portuguese boss, sacked at Chelsea last December, took over from Louis van Gaal in the summer, in a move which filled many United fans with optimism about the next few years.

After beating Bournemouth, Southampton, and Hull in their first three games, that positivity was vindicated, but a recent run of poor form has somewhat dampened those high spirits.

Mourinho’s side have won just one of their last seven league matches, and suffered disappointing defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea in that time, as well as a woeful 3-1 loss at Watford.

Although their Europa League form has picked up after their 1-0 defeat at Feyenoord in their opening match, United fans expect better from their side in the league, and will hope to see their team climb the table in weeks to come.

They currently sit eighth, eight points off the joint-leaders City, Liverpool, and Arsenal, and Mourinho may already be considering transfer targets as he looks to bridge that gap to the top three.

Thus, he may look at Premier League players in a bid to strengthen his side, and may even look at neighbours City to see what they’ve got available.

So, here are TWO City players he may look to lure to Old Trafford in January…

Gael Clichy

United’s full-back concerns could see them make a move for City left-back Gael Clichy in January.

The former Arsenal defender, who spent eight years in North London before moving to the Etihad in 2011, is out of contract in Manchester at the end of the season, and it doesn’t look like he’s going to get a new deal to extend his stay at City.

Also, it seems clear that City’s main weaknesses this season have been the full-back areas and, although Clichy has only appeared four times in the league, Guardiola clearly doesn’t fancy him too much.

However, he could do a job in a United backline that have struggled at times this season and, with Mourinho still unsure about Luke Shaw, Clichy could provide some healthy competition for the England international.

Yaya Toure

Yaya Toure’s six-year stay at Manchester City looks to be coming to an end.

The Ivorian is not in Guardiola’s plans at the moment, for one reason or another, and it doesn’t look like anything is going to get resolved soon.

And, with the midfielder’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, they might look to offload him in January, and United could be a destination.

The Red Devils haven’t had that much steel in the middle of the park this season and, although Ander Herrera has done well at times, it’s an area United could do with strengthening.

Although Toure is not the most disciplined in that position, he has a proven track record of playing there in the top-flight, and could even push further forward if needed.

There has already been speculation about a potential move to Old Trafford, and it could be an avenue Mourinho pursues in January.
