Man United have hit a set back in their chase to land the former most expensive player in the world, Gareth Bale, according to a report from the Manchester Evening News.
It was reported on Monday that the there had been a ‘clandestine’ meeting between Red Devils manager, Jose Mourinho his executive vice-chairman Ed Woodard and Jonathan Barnett, the Welshman’s agent.
However, according to the MEN, Real Madrid are set to offer their star a new contract in order to allay any doubts he has over his future at the Santiago Bernabeu.
It was suggested that the former Tottenham and Southampton man would consider a move away from Madrid should he remain in the shadow of star man, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Mourinho & Co. will have to stump up some serious cash if they want to tempt the Welsh international into signing with them over a new contract with Zidane’s side, with the 27-year-old rumoured to be after a deal worth within the region of £17.7m a year.
