Manchester United suffered a humiliating 1-0 defeat against ASEAN All-stars in the first match of their post-season tour of Asia on Wednesday.
Ruben Amorim’s side flow out to Asia shortly after their 2-0 victory against Aston Villa on Sunday, but the tour started poorly as they fell to a disappointing defeat.
That result meant United finished the season 15th in the Premier League table, and Amorim will therefore likely be desperate to bolster his squad during the upcoming summer transfer window.
With that in mind, it appears that United are in the race to sign a La Liga goalkeeper who is in high demand.
As per CaughtOffside, the Red Devils have joined Premier League rivals Arsenal in the race to sign Espanyol ‘keeper Joan Garcia.
The report claims that United are on the hunt for a new shot-stopper following a poor campaign for Andre Onana at Old Trafford.
Their search has sparked interest in Garcia, 24, who has been in impressive form for Espanyol in the Spanish top flight this term.
In total Garcia has kept eight clean sheets in 38 La Liga matches this term, and his impressive displays have attracted interest from several clubs.
The report suggests that, however, that Espanyol’s fierce rivals Barcelona are currently leading the race to land the Spaniard, although the player himself has not yet agreed to a move.
Garcia is under contract with Espanyol until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, but it appears that he could depart the club this summer.
While Arsenal are interested in the player, he is unlikely to usurp David Raya as the Gunners’ first choice ‘keeper and a move to The Emirates may therefore be unlikely.
