Former Man United midfielder, Paul Scholes, has criticised the Red Devils boss ahead of their crucial derby with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side on Monday Night Football.
The game, which has been dubbed ‘Red Monday’ enters into a new era at Anfield as messrs Klopp and Mourinho meet for the first time as Liverpool and Man United managers.
However, ahead of the clash, Old Trafford icon Scholes has claimed that Mourinho’s side lack identity and that the hosts have the upper hand on Monday night.
Speaking to BBC Sport, the ex-England international said:
“He was not ruthless enough in the off-season, there is so much confusion about who should play.
“What I saw of Mourinho at Chelsea, he had 13 or 14 players who played every week. He never rested players even in the League Cup or whatever competition he was in.”
Scholes, who made 696 appearances for the Red Devils winning 11 league titles, feels that Mourinho’s side are yet to settle:
“With United it is still a settling-in period – it is going to take a bit of time for them to knit together and see what they are about.
“Is there an identity to the team yet? I don’t think there is.
“If you were betting, you would be betting on Liverpool.”
Liverpool boss, Klopp, has the upper hand over Mourinho when it comes to their head-to-head record. The pair have met on five occasions previously, with Klopp having won three, lost one and drawn one, the most recent meeting was Klopp’s first win as Reds manager, a 3-1 victory at Stamford Bridge.
