Man United must snap up these 3 bargain buys in January

With the January transfer window fast approaching United will be searching the market for players who can add to their team.

It’s clear that the season has started quite as Jose Mourinho’s side would have liked, they find themselves in 6th place after the clubs worst ever start to a Premier League season. This is after throwing a ridiculous amount of money and wages at the Likes of Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

However, the Red Devils by no means have nothing to play for during the second half of the season. Whilst a push for the Premier League title is looking more and more unlikely by the week, they are still in with a big shout of qualifying for next seasons Champions League.

The club will be desperate to get back to European football’s top table and will be looking to identify players who can help drive the team toward that goal during the second half of the campaign.

It’s always worth keeping an eye out for bargain buys during the window, as the money saved in these deals can be spent on other targets. With that said here’s 3 bargain buys United should be looking to snap up this January.

Arjen Robben

United are on the lookout for players that can produce moments of magic, players who are truly world-class match-winners. There can be no denying that Arjen Robben belongs in this category.

The mercurial Dutchman has been one of the best players on the planet for a number of years now, and although he is approaching the end of the best years of his career, he still looks to have a number of years left in him at the top level. The 32-year-old is still starting regularly for German giants Bayern Munich, helping himself to an impressive haul of five goals and five assists in his 12 appearances so far this campaign.

The Dutchman’s contract is up this summer and as a result he is likely to be available for much less than his market value in January. This is certainly an option United should be looking at as they look to win more games during the second half of the campaign.

Daniele de Rossi

De Rossi has been putting in impressive performances in the heart of the Roma midfield for well over a decade now. The Italian is a real leader of men, someone who you want alongside you in testing circumstances. United are crying out for a player of this type.

You have to also question the options United have in defensive midfield, there is almost nobody there who you would consider a traditional holding midfielder, somebody who makes their living through their ability to tackle and intercept. Schneiderlin is possibly the only one, and he looks massively out of favour since Jose Mourinho’s reign began.

United need this option, so they can keep games tighter from the start when they want to, or see games out from winning positions more easily. De Rossi would be the perfect player, and again, the Italian will be available for a cut-price fee as his contract is up this coming June.

Thiago Silva

This United side is made up of many stars, but how many of them would you call leaders? They are lacking in this department, particularly at the back.

Gone are the days when Ferdinand and Vidic used to martial the defence with a coolness and confidence that is yet to matched in the Premier League era. Instead now they are left with promising newcomer Bailly, accompanied by the likes of Blind and Rojo, and the too often absent Smalling to lead the backline.

Thiago Silva would be an ideal addition. The Brazilian matches world-class ability with exceptional experience and leadership qualities. He still possesses good physical attributes and looks to have plenty more years left in him at the top. Better still, the 32-year-old is out of contract this summer and can likely be purchased for a cut-price fee.
