Man United plotting shock Rashford swap deal

Rashford's future remains very uncertain

Manchester United’s season went from bad to worse on Sunday as they were beaten 1-0 at home by lowly Wolves.

The Red Devils produced a stunning comeback to beat Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday, but they were unable to build on that result on Sunday as Pablo Sarabia’s second half goal earned the visitors all three points at Old Trafford.

The defeat leaves Ruben Amorim’s side 14th in the Premier League table and the Portuguese will be well aware that they will only qualify for next season’s Champions League if they win the Europa League this time around.

Away from the action, it appears that United are contemplating a sensational swap deal involving one of their loanees.

As reported by The Daily Star, the Red Devils are plotting a shock swap that involving Marcus Rashford and Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins.

Rashford left United to join Villa in January, on a loan deal for the remainder of the season.

The Englishman had been struggling to establish himself in the first team at Old Trafford, but has been revitalised since making the switch to Villa Park.

Watkins is a target for Manchester United

The 27-year-old has scored three goals and provided six assists since his move, but the report claims that United are keen to offload him permanently and have told Villa that they can sign him this summer for around £40 million.

Watkins, meanwhile, has been in sensational form for the Villans this term, netting 16 times and registering 13 assists in 48 matches across all competitions so far.

Since the arrival of Rashford, however, Watkins has fallen somewhat out of favour under Unai Emery.

Rashford was selected ahead of Watkins for Villa’s Champions League exit against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday, and it is claimed that United are therefore contemplating the idea of offering an audacious swap deal involving the two players this summer.
