Man United ponder move for Netherlands international

The Netherlands took a huge step towards qualifying for the knockout stages of the World Cup by beating Sweden 5-1 on Saturday.

Brian Brobbey and Cody Gakpo each scored twice, before Crysencio Summerville added a fifth for Ronald Koeman’s side.

The win put the Netherlands top of group F, level on points and goal difference with Japan and only ahead due to a higher number of goals scored.

Now, though, it has emerged that one member of Koeman’s squad is on the radar of Manchester United.

As per CaughtOffside, Manchester United are considering a summer move to sign forward Summerville from West Ham United.

The Dutchman joined the Hammers from Leeds United in 2024, having impressed during his time at Elland Road.

He has since made 56 appearances for West Ham across all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists.

The winger was unable to prevent West Ham from being relegated to The Championship at the end of last season, though, and it appears almost certain that he will leave The London Stadium this summer.

The report suggests that the Red Devils are pondering a move to sign the Dutchman is Marcus Rashford departs Old Trafford permanently, following his successful loan spell at Barcelona last season.

Summerville, 24, has more than three years remaining on his current contract with the Hammers, though, and the east London outfit are therefore set to demand a fee of around £50 million for the player, the report suggests.

That figure is seen as an obstacle to United’s pursuit of the ex-Leeds man, who has also attracted interest from Italian clubs Napoli and AC Milan, as well as European champions Paris Saint-Germain.
