Manchester United are on alert as target Blaise Matuidi remains unsure over his future at French giants Paris Saint-Germain, reports The Independent.
The 30-year-old midfielder enjoyed a decent season in the French capital this term, netting four times and laying on four assists in 34 Ligue 1 games to help Unai Emery’s side to second place in the division, albeit a hefty eight points behind champions Monaco.
And although they finished the season with three trophies, they would surely have been disappointed not to have won a fifth successive league title, and indeed exit the Champions League at the round of 16 stage despite holding a 4-0 lead over Barcelona after the first leg in Paris.
And with just a year left on his contract, it appears that Matuidi’s future at the club is far from certain, and his comments following their 1-0 win over Angers in the Coupe de France final on Saturday have not done anything to clarify his situation.
When asked about his future at PSG, he said: ‘I don’t know yet.
‘I am feeling good in Paris. It’s hard as you don’t know the real position of the club. PSG made a proposition to me. They are open to everything when it comes to me. There is no decision taken so far.
‘Honestly, I don’t want to lie, I don’t know yet.’
These comments will surely come as good news to United boss Jose Mourinho and the Old Trafford faithful, who will be sincerely hoping for an improved Premier League performance under the Portuguese next term.
Although the Red Devils won the League Cup and Europa League, their sixth place finish in the top-flight, 24 points behind champions Chelsea, was far from acceptable, yet bringing in quality like Matuidi could be exactly what Mourinho and his team need to bridge that gap next season.
