Manchester United will look to cement their place in next season’s Europa League when they face Crystal Palace on Monday evening.

The Red Devils currently sit sixth in the Premier League table and look set to compete in Europe’s second club competition next term, and victory over the Eagles will move them a step closer to ensuring they do so.

Manager Erik ten Hag continues to face speculation surrounding his future at Old Trafford after an underwhelming season, with rumours suggesting that the Dutchman could be replaced this summer.

Now, it appears that one of United’s top transfer targets could be staying at his current club.

According to Football Insider, Everton are trying to persuade central defender Jarrad Branthwaite to stay put at the club for another season.

The Englishman is set to be the subject of interest from several clubs this summer, not least Man United, but the Toffees are hoping to reach an agreement that will se him stay at Goodison Park until next year.

Branthwaite has been in fine form for the Toffees this season

Branthwaite, 21, joined Everton from Football League side Carlisle United in 2020 and has since spent time on loan at both Blackburn Rovers and Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.

His spell in the Netherlands was particularly impressive, and the defender returned to England last summer and immediately established himself as a regular for Sean Dyche’s side.

He has played 38 times across all competitions so far this term, missing just three of their Premier League matches so far and playing a key part in helping the Toffees avoid relegation despite two points deductions.

Man United are set to be in the market for a new centre-back, with doubts over the futures of both Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans who could both depart Old Trafford when their contracts expire at the end of the current season.
