Manchester United are reportedly prepared to hijack Chelsea’s move for England defender John Stones.

The defending Premier League champions have already had three bids of £20m, £25m and £30m rejected respectively by Everton for the 21-year-old centre-half this summer.

Stones, who arrived at Goodison Park from Barnsley back in 2013, scored once in 28 appearances in all competitions for the Toffees last season and has played every minute of every league so far this term for manager Roberto Martinez.

However; after watching Everton turn down Chelsea’s wades of cash, the Red Devils are set to trod on the Blues’ toes as they are believed to be willing to offer fellow England international Phil Jones in part-exchange.

Chelsea are also reportedly ready to launch a fourth and final bid for Stones before the close of the transfer window on September 1, which will potentially be worth £40m.
