Manchester City have reportedly opened negotiations over a summer swoop for Germany international striker Mario Gomez, according to Sabah (via the Daily Star).
The Premier League side, who lost 1-0 in the English top-flight on Sunday to arch-rivals Manchester United inside the Etihad Stadium, have targeted trying to lure the Besiktas striker to England once the current 2015-16 campaign has concluded.
The 30-year-old, who has 61 international caps for his country, has scored a sensational 21 goals and provided three assists in 34 appearances in all competitions for the Turkish Super Lig giants so far this season.
Gomez; who has also emerged as a potential summer transfer target for Louis van Gaal’s Red Devils, is wanted by City’s new incoming boss Pep Guardiola as it is thought he wants a new powerful forward at the club, which casts huge doubt over Wilfried Bony’s future with the Citizens.
However the German hitman is only currently on loan at Besiktas from Serie A side Fiorentina, who reportedly have a buy-out clause in Gomez’s current deal.
