Manchester City kept the pressure up on Premier League leaders Arsenal with a 4-1 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Gunners had temporarily extended their to five points with a 1-0 win against Leicester City at The King Power Stadium, before Pep Guardiola’s side ran riot on the south coast to close the gap.

The reigning champions have now moved back to within two points of Arsenal – who have a game-in-hand on their opponents – and the two sides are scheduled to meet in a potentially pivotal match at the end of April.

In the meantime, City have reportedly begun contract negotiations with one of their defenders.

According to Football Insider, Citizens centre-back Nathan Ake is in line for a new deal, with the two parties in talks over an extension to his current deal.

The 28-year-old has played a key role for Guardiola’s side this term, making 28 appearances across all competitions.

The Dutchman was the subject of interest from former club Chelsea last summer, but ultimately stayed put in Manchester.

Ake is in talks to extend his stay at The Etihad

He started the current campaign superbly, and the report claims that City were also approached for the player in January.

Ake’s current contract is due to expire in the summer of 2025, but City are said to be keen on extending his stay at the Etihad.

The Netherlands international joined City from Bournemouth back in 2020 and has since won two Premier League titles.

He emerged on the Premier League stage during his time with Chelsea, where he made 17 appearances having graduated from the club’s youth setup.

This season the defender’s versatility has been useful for Guardiola, with Ake often being used at left-back as well as in the centre of defence.

At present, the former Chelsea man is said to earn around £90,000-per-week, although he is expected to be rewarded for his fine form with a pay rise.

The defender, who has also previously spent time with Watford, has made a total of 68 appearances for City.
