Manchester City are fearing the worst when it comes to the diagnosis of striker Sergio Aguero’s injury, according to The Daily Star.
The Argentina international hobbled off late on in their 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough on Sunday with what looked like a groin problem, a match Pep Guardiola’s men just about rescued a point from thanks to Aguero’s strike partner Gabriel Jesus’ header in the final minute.
And City reportedly aren’t overly optimistic with regard to Aguero’s diagnosis, which could rule him out of the rest of the campaign as Guardiola’s men look to try and qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Aguero had looked set to record his best goal-scoring season at the Etihad Stadium prior to Sunday’s injury, with the 28-year-old having netted 31 goals in just 42 games for the club this term, one fewer than his best campaign back in 2014/15.
That’s not bad for a forward who struggled for gametime during January due to the arrival of Brazil international Jesus, but with 13 goals in his last 14 matches for Guardiola’s side, it’s been clear how integral he is and how integral he remains to this City team.
News of Aguero’s injury should be made clear in the coming days, but it looks likely that Guardiola and his side will have to finish the season without their star striker.
