Manchester City must snap up these 2 Bundesliga stars in January

Manchester City’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday was their second victory in their last three Premier League games, and it keeps them within touching distance at the top of the division.

A Yaya Toure brace on his first league start of the season secured a much-needed three points for Pep Guardiola’s men, who trail leaders Chelsea by just a point after 12 games of the campaign.

City have won eight of their first 12 matches, with their only defeat of the campaign thus far coming at Tottenham, where they produced a lacklustre display in a 2-0 defeat at White Hart Lane back in September.

Their Champions League campaign has also been solid, although it didn’t look good for Guardiola’s side when they lost 4-0 at Barcelona in their third match, as it left them with just four points.

Nonetheless, they recovered and sensationally beat Luis Enrique’s side 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium last month, and know a victory at Borussia Monchengladbach tomorrow night will secure their place in the last 16.

However, a few indifferent performances have called into question whether City can sustain a title challenge this season, with many believing that City need reinforcements to be in touch come May.

Thus, here are TWO Bundesliga stars Guardiola should try and snap up in January…

David Alaba

Manchester City look set to go head-to-head with neighbours United in the race for Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.

Both sides have shown defensive deficiencies this season and, with question marks over the long-term fitness of captain Vincent Kompany, City boss Guardiola clearly feels that it is a priority to bring in a quality defender.

However, it’s also Alaba’s versatility that could hugely benefit City, as the 24-year-old can play centre-back and left-back, and could therefore be the long-term replacement to Aleksandar Kolarov and Gael Clichy, both of whom are over 30.

Guardiola’s previous stint in charge at Bayern could sway Alaba’s decision, and it’s a deal the City boss must try and clinch in January.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

It’s not the first time that we’ve mentioned Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a target for Manchester City, and it’s not likely to be the last if he continues to score goals at an incredible rate.

The Gabon international scored 25 goals in his second season at Borussia Dortmund in 2015, and then netted a staggering 39 times in 49 games for the club last time out, including a stunning run of 22 goals in his first 18 games of the season.

Aubameyang hasn’t let up this season either, and netted his 15th of the campaign in just his 14th appearance in Dortmund’s 1-0 win over Bayern Munich on Saturday.

The forward confirmed that he held talks with City over the summer and, although it will likely force City to break their transfer record to bring him to England, it’s a move they’ve got to try and complete in January.
