Lots of us like to play 5-a-side football in our spare time, but have you ever considered how the team you support would line-up if they were limited to five players?
Based on current form, and with a formation of one goalkeeper, one defender, two midfielders and one striker, we at Shoot thought it would be interesting to see who would make the grade for each Premier League outfit.
Here’s what we came up with for Manchester City…
Goalkeeper:
Joe Hart
You always want a dependable man between the sticks, and they don’t come any more dependable than City and England number 1, Hart.
The stopper, usually, has good distribution and has quick reflexes – ideal for the smaller goals.
Defender:
Kolarov has been City’s stand out defender so far this term.
Aleksandar Kolarov
In usual circumstances you would expect this to be Vincent Kompany, but with the Belgian missing a number of games recently through injury, it is City’s left-back, Kolarov, that makes our team.
The Serbia international is strong, has a rocket of a left foot, can score from almost anyway and is capable of assisting too. The perfect defender in a 5-a-side team.
Midfielders:
Kevin De Bruyne
The assist king, De Bruyne would be the player ricocheting the ball off the wall and to his team-mates with incredible accuracy.
The Belgian is also a fine finisher, and his agile frame and pace are ideally suited to this situation.
Fernandinho
Fernandinho has once again impressed in the middle of the park for City.
While De Bruyne is the creative force in the middle of the field, you will need that player that will break-up the play too, and on current form we would have Fernandinho in our starting line-up.
As well as his ability to intercept and win the ball back, he also has a fierce shot that could come in handy from outside the area.
Striker:
Sergio Aguero
Despite his injury troubles, the best striker in the Premier League in terms of ability is an automatic choice.
Even though he has missed a chunk of the season, the Argentine attacker showed his quality with five goals in the win against Newcastle, as well as a fine strike against Liverpool, and his clinical finishing would lead this 5-a-side team to success.
