Manchester United are reportedly hopeful of scuppering Chelsea’s potential deal for France international star Tiemoue Bakayoko, according to the Daily Star.
The Premier League side, who finished sixth in the English top-flight standings last term, but won the UEFA Europa League and EFL Cup, have been linked with making a move for the AS Monaco midfielder this summer.
The 22-year-old, who made his senior international debut against Spain back in March, scored three goals and provided one assist in 51 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 champions last season.
Bakayoko, who joined Monaco from fellow French side Rennes back in 2014, was heavily tipped to join Premier League champions Chelsea ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.
However, the report suggests The Red Devils are weighing in with a late swoop, even agreeing a £35m fee for the player.
Jose Mourinho’s latest pursuit could serve as a another knockout blow to Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, who has already lost out on re-signing Everton striker Romelu Lukaku to the ‘Special One’.
