Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Germany Under-21 international midfielder Arne Maier, according to Sport Bild.

The Premier League side, who defeated Young Boys 3-0 in their UEFA Champions League opener in midweek, have been linked with a move for the Hertha Berlin starlet ahead of the January transfer window.

The 19-year-old, who has featured twice for Germany’s Under-21 squad, has made four appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit so far this season.

Maier, who is also said to be attracting interest from Premier League rivals Arsenal, has racked up 26 first-team outings for the German club overall, providing one assist.

The report claims United and The Gunners are both weighing up offers for the highly-rated defensive midfielder, who is contracted at Hertha until June 2022.
