Manchester United and Chelsea eye £40m move for Brazil international

21 September 2014 - Ligue 1 - PSG v Lyon - Marquinhos of PSG.

Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly eyeing a £40million summer move for Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Ligue 1 champions don’t want to lose the Brazil international this summer, but they are aware that the 21-year-old could be unsettled at the Parc des Princes, meaning the club could either be willing to cash in, or even do a swap deal for the defender, with Laurent Blanc a fan of the likes of United forward Memphis Depay and Blues striker Diego Costa.

Chelsea, who will have Antonio Conte as their new manager once he has led Italy at Euro 2016, have a long-term interest in the Brazilian, and even made a late bid for his services at the end of the transfer window in August when their offers for Everton defender John Stones were rejected.

Meanwhile, United are another Premier League side that are looking to strengthen their defensive options over the summer, but their managerial situation is a lot less clear, with doubts remaining over whether Louis van Gaal will still be their boss next term.
