Manchester United earned their first points of the season on Monday night by beating rivals Liverpool 2-1 at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils showed a marked improvement from their performance last week when beaten 4-0 by Brentford, and found themselves 1-0 up at half-time thanks to Jadon Sancho’s well-taken goal.

United then doubled their lead in the second half when Anthony Martial set up Marcus Rashford for his first goal of the season and, despite a late consolation from Mohamed Salah, Erik ten Hag’s side held on to leapfrog their opponents.

Despite beating their bitter rivals on Monday, it appears that United are still looking to sign more players before the transfer window slams shut on September 1.

According to French outlet MediaFoot, United are interested in Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin.

The report claims that United are considering ‘taking a gamble’ on a player that has impressed in England, but has also struggled with injuries.

Saint-Maximin’s performances have earned the attention of Manchester United

The Frenchman put in an outstanding performance for The Magpies on Sunday as they earned a well-deserved point against Manchester City, drawing 3-3.

Saint-Maximin, 25, set up two of Newcastle’s goals at St. James’ Park, taking his tally for the club to 12 goals and 18 assists in 96 matches.

The winger arrived in the north-east from Nice in 2019 and has since established himself as a fan favourite for The Magpies, exciting fans with his dribbling and pace.

United are on the lookout for an attacking player, with Rashford and Sancho having failed to impress last term, despite both scoring on Monday.

The Red Devils’ poor form up front was highlighted by their poor performances against both Brighton and Brentford, with Sancho’s effort against Liverpool being the first goal scored by a United player this term.
