Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian has emerged as a target for Fulham, according to Tuttomercato, via talkSPORT.

The 29-year-old has made just three appearances for Jose Mourinho this season, with his last coming in the club’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal on Wednesday due to a number of injuries in the club’s defensive ranks.

Now, following the appointment of Claudio Ranieri, it’s being reported that the Cottagers boss is eyeing a swoop for his fellow Italian.

The West London side have conceded a Premier League high 36 times in 15 matches so far this term so their new manager wants to shore up his backline in January.

Ranieri wants defensive recruitments to help shore up Fulham’s poor defensive record.

And with Darmian entering the final six months of his contract at Old Trafford, Fulham could land him on a knock-down fee in January.

However, it is thought that the 36-time senior international full-back would prefer a move back to Italy, where he’s reportedly attracted interest from Inter Milan and Lazio.

Overall, Darmian has played 88 times for United since his £12.75million switch from Torino in the summer of 2015.
