Manchester United are reportedly considering a shock swoop for Wales international star Joe Allen this summer, according to the South Wales Evening Post.

The Premier League side, who visit AFC Bournemouth during the opening weekend of the new 2016/17 English top-flight campaign on August 14, have been linked with a surprise move for the Liverpool midfielder.

The 26-year-old, who has 31 international caps for his country and starred for Wales as Chris Coleman’s side reached the semi-finals of this summer’s European Championships in France, scored three goals and provided three assists in 37 appearances in all competitions for the Reds last season.

Allen, who has just one year remaining on his current deal at Anfield, could find himself the subject of a bid from new Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho according to the report as the ‘Special One’ continues to reshape his playing squad at Old Trafford.

However the Welshman remains a top priority target for Premier League rivals Swansea City, whilst West Ham United and Stoke City are also thought to have been monitoring Allen’s situation on Merseyside.
