Manchester United continue the defence of their FA Cup crown when they face Fulham on Sunday.

The Red Devils are enduring a torrid season but remain in contention to win the FA Cup, having beaten rivals Manchester City in last season’s final.

Head coach Ruben Amorim wasn’t in charge when United beat City at Wembley last year, but the Portuguese will see the competition as a prime opportunity for his side to save their campaign and for him to get his hands on his first piece of silverware in England.

It also appears that United will have to win the Europa League in order to qualify for European football next term, with Amorim’s side currently sat 14th in the Premier League standings.

Despite this, it appears that those in charge of the club are looking to bolster Amorim’s squad when the transfer window reopens this summer, and it appears that United are hoping to re-sign one of their former players.

As per The Daily Briefing, the Manchester club are hoping to sign midfielder Angel Gomes this summer.

The Englishman departed Old Trafford to join Lille in 2020, having played ten times for United at senior level.

Gomes has forced his way into the England senior setup

He then spent time on loan with Portuguese outfit Boavista, before returning to France and establishing himself as a key player for Lille.

The midfielder’s impressive form earned him a call-up to the England senior squad last year, and he made his debut for the Three Lions against Ireland in September.

Despite playing more than 130 times for Lille since joining the club, 24-year-old Gomes is in the final six months of his current contract with the club and looking increasingly likely to depart the club at the end of the current campaign.

The report claims that United are one of several clubs considering a move for the midfielder, who is said to be keen on the idea of a return to the Premier League.
