Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Croatia international star Ivan Rakitic, according to The Sun.

The Premier League side, who have risen up to sixth spot in the English top-flight table after last Sunday’s 3-1 victory at Swansea City, are understood to be keeping tabs on the FC Barcelona midfielder’s current contract situation.

The 28-year-old, who has 81 international caps for his country and featured for Croatia at this summer’s Euro 2016 Championships in France, has scored two goals and provided one assist in 15 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga giants so far this season.

Rakitic, who arrived at the Nou Camp from Spanish rivals Sevilla back in 2014, is under contract with Barca until 2019, although they are not ready to offer him an extended deal until next summer.

The report suggests Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho is keen on the Croatian and could look to make a cheeky swoop for the central midfielder, hoping to sabotage any potential new deal for Barcelona.
