Manchester United are reportedly keeping a close eye on England international midfielder Ross Barkley’s contract situation this summer, according to the Mirror.

The Premier League side, who have already signed defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica and striker Romelu Lukaku from Everton this transfer window, have been freshly linked with a potential move for The Toffees star following his uncertain future at Goodison Park.

The 23-year-old, who has 22 international caps for The Three Lions, scored six goals and provided nine assists in 39 appearances in all competitions for Everton last season.

Barkley, who has been with the club since the age of 11, has netted 27 times in 179 games overall for the Merseyside outfit, and enjoyed loan spells away at Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United back in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

But with just a year left on his deal, the central midfielder has refused to put pen to paper on a contract extension with The Toffees, alerting the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea to his availability.

The report adds that The Red Devils are monitoring his current situation before considering a late swoop for Barkley this summer transfer window, for whom manager Jose Mourinho rates highly.

Everton are demanding £50m for their prized asset’s services.
