Manchester United have reportedly been offered the chance to re-sign Portugal international superstar Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, according to Sport (via the Daily Star).

The 13-time Premier League champions, who climbed up to fifth in the English top-flight standings on Sunday after defeating Everton 1-0 at Old Trafford, have been continuously linked with trying to lure the Real Madrid forward back to Old Trafford during previous transfer windows.

The 31-year-old; who has a remarkable 125 international caps for his country, has scored a sensational 42 goals in just 39 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga giants so far this season, including 13 assists.

Ronaldo, whose current deal at the Bernabeu expires in 2018, could be offloaded by manager Zinedine Zidane as the Spanish club are keen to cash-in on the Portuguese’s services rather than lose him on a free transfer in the future.

However the report also suggests that any move back to United would see the forward demand a staggering £16m-a-year in wages from the Red Devils.

Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 291 appearances for United between 2003 and 2009, before sealing a then world record transfer deal worth £80m to Madrid.
