Manchester United Predicted XI vs Istanbul Basaksehir: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s possible starting XI as big summer signings set to start

Manchester United take on Istanbul Basaksehir at Old Trafford with the aim of beating the side which inflicted a shock defeat on them in Turkey earlier this month.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side lost the game 2-1 three weeks ago to leave them on six points after three matches.

The Red Devils returned to action after the international break with an unimpressive 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

Now Solskjaer will be hoping for a better performance from his team as he aims to take a step closer to the knockout phase.

With so many games being played in a short space of time, the Norwegian is expected to make changes for this one.

But which players will the United boss task with trying to secure a third win in a row in all competitions?

Here we predict the Manchester United starting XI to take on Istanbul Basaksehir…

Goalkeeper:

Despite looking in better form and playing in every Premier League match so far this term, Solskjaer is expected to give David De Gea a second consecutive rest in the Champions League. This will offer Dean Henderson another chance against the side he suffered a defeat against on his Champions League debut in Turkey.

Defenders:

United played with a back-four against West Brom and are expected to play the same system at Old Trafford once again. Aaron Wan-Bissaka should continue on the right hand side with fellow Englishman and club-captain Harry Maguire at centre-back. Alex Telles didn’t have the most impressive of Premier League debuts against West Brom but, due to Luke Shaw’s injury, should start again on the left. However, at centre-back, Victor Lindelof could get a rest to help a back complaint with Axel Tuanzebe again stepping in for the Champions League.

Midfielders:

The sitting midfielders of Nemanja Matic and Fred didn’t really click on Saturday so Solskjaer could opt to go slightly more adventurous in this one. Scott McTominay could come back into the side to do the defensive work in the middle, but Donny van de Beek is expected to bring his Champions League experience to the starting XI. United’s start man Bruno Fernandes will continue in the number 10 role. Paul Pogba will be assessed before the match but could again be a substitute.

Forwards:

United looked short of ideas in attack against the Baggies so a shuffle of the forward pack is expected for this one. Juan Mata will drop out of the XI and, after returning to training on Monday, Mason Greenwood should replace the Spaniard on the right. Meanwhile, despite scoring a hat-trick against RB Leipzig in the last home Champions League outing, Marcus Rashford, could be given a rest with Anthony Martial shifting to the left. In place of the England international, Edinson Cavani might be given his first Red Devils start after looking sharp when he came on against West Brom.

Predicted Manchester United XI: Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Tuanzebe, Telles; McTominay, Van de Beek, Fernandes; Martial, Greenwood, Cavani.
