Manchester United predicted XI vs PSG: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s possible starting line-up with striker set to start against former club

Manchester United take on Paris Saint-Germain at Old Trafford in one of the week’s biggest Champions League fixtures.

The Red Devils sit top of Group H having won three of their four matches, including an impressive 2-1 win in Paris on matchday 1.

Although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side would qualify with a draw, the Norwegian boss knows a defeat could see both PSG and RB Leipzig go level with them with just one match to play.

United will head into the game full of confidence after a 3-2 comeback victory over Southampton at the weekend which extended their winning run to four matches in all competitions.

With qualification in sight, Solskjaer can’t afford to make too many changes in this one even with a tricky test at West Ham to come on Saturday night.

So which players will the United boss pick to try and secure that required point?

Here we predict the Manchester United’s starting XI to take on PSG at Old Trafford…

Goalkeeper:

With United 2-0 down at St Mary’s, first-choice goalkeeper David De Gea was withdrawn at half-time due to an injury. That gave Dean Henderson the opportunity he’s craved and he didn’t disappoint as he took his place between the sticks to see his teammates turn the match on its head. Despite De Gea being available for this one, Solskjaer could well stick with the England ‘keeper and hand his his second Champions League start.

Defenders:

United were far from solid in the first half at Southampton but tightened up after the break. With one clean sheet from their four Champions League games to date, Solskjaer knows his side will need to be better in that area if they are to progress much further. Although goals have been shipped on a regular basis this term, United are expected to stick with Aaron Wan-Bisakka, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Alex Telles – the four that started at St Mary’s.

Midfielders:

United played with a four-man midfield against Southampton and Solskjaer could stay with that on Wednesday night. The same could almost be expected when it comes to personnel too. Fred has been a regular in the side of late, while Bruno Fernandes is the star attraction and was once again on form with another goal against Southampton. Elsewhere, Donny van de Beek is expected to keep his place after starting his first Premier League game at the weekend, but Scott McTominay could return in place of Nemanja Matic if he is passed fit after missing the Saints win with an injury.

Forwards:

It’s no surprise that Edinson Cavani looks set for just his second start as a United player after his substitute heroics at St Mary’s. Solskjaer called on the Uruguayan with his side 2-0 down and he duly delivered with an assist and match-winning brace in the second half. With Anthony Martial a big fitness doubt, Cavani looks likely to partner Marcus Rashford, who is the joint-second leading scorer in the Champions League this term with five goals.

Predicted Manchester United XI vs PSG: Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Telles; Fred, McTominay, Van de Beek, Fernandes; Cavani, Rashford.
