Manchester United Predicted XI: We predict Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting XI, as United face Chelsea in the Champions League

United boss Solskjaer is under more pressure than ever before.

Manchester United Predicted XI: We predict Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting XI, as United face Chelsea in the Champions League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side bounced back in style midweek, in Europe’s elite competition the Champions League by beating Paris Saint-Germain on their home turf once again.

However, the Norwegian boss will know his side need to keep picking up results as they look to recover from their shocking start to the season.

The Red Devils will also be buoyed by their 4-1 victory at Newcastle United last Saturday, with their last two results making them feel a whole lot better following the 6-1 thrashing by Spurs prior to the international break.

With the fixtures coming thick and fast at the moment, Solskjaer will be forced to shuffle his squad at times.

So which players will he task with getting a positive result against Frank Lampard’s side?

Here we predict the United manager’s starting XI…

Goalkeeper: David de Gea put in a solid display at Newcastle on Saturday and again in Paris, making the kind of world-class save from Callum Wilson which we have associated with the Spaniard since recent times. The Spaniard is the Red Devils’ undisputed first-choice and will start once again this afternoon.

Defenders: United’s back four were nothing short of disastrous at home to Tottenham but showed character in a much better performance at Newcastle and despite injuries were solid in Paris. Aaron Wan-Bissaka kept his recent critics quiet with a first a solid defensive display which should see him start once more. Harry Maguire should also make his return, and will start alongside Victor Lindelof. Axel Tuanzebe will count himself unlucky having performed so well in Paris midweek. On the left, Alex Telles could make his Premier League debut in place of Luke Shaw.

Midfielders: Scott McTominay and Fred performed well against Newcastle and again on Tuesday night, but Solskjaer may feel three games in a week will be too much of a stretch for the pair. We expect the Scot to retain his place, but Paul Pogba to come in for Fred and play in the holding position. Ahead of the two midfielder, Bruno Fernandes will again be tasked with creating opportunities from the middle of the park.

Forwards: Marcus Rashford had an exceptional game at Newcastle, winning a penalty, assisting two and scoring himself. The England international then followed that up with a superb winning goal in Paris. The England man is bang-in-form and will start this afternoon. However, his partner-in-crime Anthony Martial is suspended following his red card against Tottenham which could make for a first start for superstar Edinson Cavani. We expect Mason Greenwood to be thrown back into the mix from the right-hand side.

Predicted XI: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Telles; McTominay, Pogba, Fernandes; Mata, Rashford, Cavani
