Solskjaer will be excited about signing his fellow countryman.

Manchester United Predicted XI: We predict United manager Ole Gunnar Solkjaer’s starting XI, in tonight’s all-important clash away at Newcastle United in the Premier League.

The Red Devils started their 2020/21 campaign in miserable fashion, as they went down 3-1 at home to Crystal Palace.

Despite a few decent results, things seem to have gone from bad-to-worse for Solskjaer’s side culminating in a devastating 6-1 loss at home to Tottenham Hotspur before the international break.

The North West giants simply have to get back to winning ways at St James’ Park this evening, or there will almost certainly be calls for the sacking of Solskjaer.

Today’s opponents Newcastle have started well this season, picking up some good wins away at West Ham United and at home to Burnley.

So which United players will be tasked with the challenge of beating the Magpies? Here we predict Solskjaer’s XI…

Goalkeeper: David de Gea did very little wrong against Spurs despite conceding a whopping six goals. However, his understudy Dean Henderson pulled off a world-class saves in his Carabao Cup games and kept clean sheets. We believe De Gea will remain in the line-up, but Henderson is hot on his tail.

Defenders: United’s back four were nothing short of disastrous at home to Tottenham and key defender Harry Maguire did not help his cause on international duty either. For the first time in a good while, we actually believe the manager will decide to give Maguire some much-needed rest and start Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly in his place. New signing Alex Telles will start left back with Aaron Wan-Bissaka on the other flank.

Midfielders: It’s the midfield position where Solskjaer would struggle to name his very best team, despite the matches that have been played. We expect Donny van de Beek to be given his Premier League starting debut alongside Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay in the holding midfield position. Star player Paul Pogba will miss out as United will attempt to go back to basics to gain the much-needed three points.

Forwards: Solskjaer will not be able to select deadline day mega signing Edinson Cavani due to the ex-PSG superstar sill completing his quarantine. That will force the manager to play Marcus Rashford down the middle with Mason Greenwood deployed out wide with Juan Mata given some much-deserved Premier League minutes.

Predicted XI: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Bailly, Lindelof, Shaw, McTominay, Fernandes, van de Beek, Rashford, Greenwood, Mata
