Manchester United are reportedly ready to outbid Atletico Madrid in the race to sign Chelsea striker Diego Costa this summer, according to Fichajes.net (in Spanish).

Atletico boss Diego Simeone is keen to bring the 27-year-old back to his former club after seeing his team struggle to score goals this season – they have often relied too heavily on Antoine Griezmann this season.

The La Liga outfit are ready to bid £35m to try and sign the Spain striker, but it is thought that United, who are also well aware of their lack of goals this term, are willing to offer up to £45 million for the Blues attacker.

Costa enjoyed a brilliant debut campaign at Stamford Bridge, scoring an impressive 21 goals in 37 matches in all competitions as Chelsea lifted the Premier League title.

However, it has been a tough season with everyone involved with the west London outfit this time out, and the Spaniard has netted just 14 goals in 34 outings.
