Manchester United are set to appoint Jose Mourinho as their new manager, bringing an end to Louis van Gaal’s two-year spell in charge of the Red Devils.
It is understood that a deal was agreed in principle for the former Chelsea boss to take over at Old Trafford prior to United’s victory against Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday, with the team finishing fifth and failing to qualify for the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Mourinho has been out of work since being sacked by the Blues in December following a disastrous start to the campaign that saw them lying in 16th following defeat to eventual champions, Leicester City, despite winning the Premier League title just seven months earlier.
United will be hoping that the Portuguese manager can make the club challenge for the league once again – they have finished seventh, fourth and fifth respectively since Sir Alex Ferguson departed with another top flight title in 2013.
