Manchester United have reportedly begun discussions over a new contract for Spain international star Ander Herrera this summer, according to the Daily Star.

The Premier League side, who lifted the UEFA Europa League and the EFL Cup last term, despite finishing sixth in the top-flight table, are understood to have been impressed with the central midfielder’s progression at Old Trafford and want to reward the Spaniard with a new deal worth around £175,000-a-week.

The 27-year-old, who has earned just two international caps for his country, scored two goals and provided 11 assists in 50 appearances in all competitions for The Red Devils last season.

Herrera, who arrived at The Theatre of Dreams back in 2014 from La Liga outfit Athletic Bilbao following his reported £29m switch, has netted 15 times in 122 games overall for United.

The report suggests Jose Mourinho’s side are eager to tie down the midfielder to a new long-term contract, having attracted the likes of FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid recently.
