Manchester United team news: Predicted line-up vs AZ Alkmaar

Ole Gunnar Solskjær will be hoping for plenty of transfer activity at Old Trafford this January.

What a difference a week makes in football with Manchester United fans going from feeling pessimistic to optimistic in that short space of time.

Over the past seven days, the Red Devils have put in two impressive performances to beat Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City at the Etihad.

Now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side welcome AZ Alkmaar to Old Trafford in their final Europa League group match.

The Red Devils still require a point to finish top of Group L and know a defeat will see their Dutch opponents leapfrog them.

But with Everton to play in the Premier League just three days later, what team will Ole select..?

GK: Sergio Romero

The Argentine is a top-class back-up to David de Gea and has played in three of the five Europa League matches so far. Expect him to get the nod once more.

RB: Ashley Young

Played left-back in the win against Tottenham but could be switched to right-back here in order to accommodate squad rotation.

CB: Axel Tuanzebe

Another who has appeared in the Europa League already this season. Ole is a fan and will want to give him some game time with qualification already assured.

CB: Marcos Rojo

The defender has just returned from injury but could be given a start to allow Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof a night off. Has also played in four Europa matches this term.

LB: Brandon Williams

Has impressed since being introduced to the first-team this season. With Luke Shaw now back, this is the perfect game to give the 19-year-old some more senior minutes.

DM: Nemanja Matic

Has not started a match since October 3 having fallen down the pecking order but his experience will be useful with lots of youngsters on the pitch.

CM: Andreas Pereira

Came on as a second-half substitute against Man City so should have the energy reserved to start this one in midfield.

AM: Juan Mata

The Spaniard has been a bit-part player this term but has appeared in four of the five Europa League matches to date. Should make that five out of six on Thursday.

FW: Jesse Lingard

Scored in the last Europa League match against Astana and impressed against Man City at the weekend. Ole will want to keep his confidence up.

FW: Tahith Chong

Has played twice in the Europa League this term and started in Astana last time out. Expect the highly-rated 20-year-old to be given a further opportunity.

ST: Mason Greenwood

The teenage goal-getter has scored five times for United this season and two of those have come in four Europa League appearances. He’ll be hoping to add to that tally on Thursday.
