Manchester United have reportedly joined Chelsea in the race to sign Belgium international striker Romelu Lukaku this summer, according to BBC Sport.

The Premier League side, who won the EFL Cup and UEFA Europa League in 2016-17, have listed the Everton hitman as a transfer target ahead of the forthcoming top-flight campaign.

The 24-year-old, who has 57 international caps for his country, scored an impressive 26 goals and provided seven assists in 39 appearances in all competitions for The Toffees last season.

Lukaku, who arrived at Goodison Park back in July 2014 for a then club-record fee of £28m from Premier League champions Chelsea, has netted 87 times for the club overall in 166 games.

Despite seemingly veering towards a return to Stamford Bridge this summer, the report suggests Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils have entered the running to land the Belgian, having been unable to tie up a deal for Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata so far this transfer window.

Lukaku was sold to Everton by United boss Mourinho during the Portuguese’s second spell in charge of Chelsea in 2014.
