Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a shock late summer swoop for Chile international forward Alexis Sanchez, according to Pilib De Brun.
The Premier League side, who sit top of the standings after winning their opening three fixtures fairly convincing, have been linked with a surprise move for the wantaway Arsenal star before the close of the transfer window on Thursday (23:00).
The 28-year-old, who has 115 international caps for his country, made his first appearance of the season for The Gunners on Sunday, where Liverpool thrashed Arsene Wenger’s side 4-0 at Anfield.
Sanchez, who arrived at the Emirates Stadium back in July 2014 following his move from FC Barcelona, has less than 12 months remaining on his current deal and is refusing to commit his long-term future to Arsenal.
Overall, the Chilean has scored 72 goals and provided 42 assists in 145 games in all competition for the North London outfit, winning the FA Cup twice and the FA Community Shield.
NBC Sports and talkSPORT reporter, Pilib De Brun, claimed on Twitter on Monday night that United are interested in luring Sanchez to Old Trafford this summer, but adds that Arsenal boss Wenger would prefer to sell the forward to rivals Manchester City.
Utd are interested in Sanchez but AW would rather sell to City supposedly. As for Lemar, can’t get a single source to confirm Utd’s interest
