Manchester United are reportedly ready to scupper Juventus’ potential deal for Portugal international Andre Gomes this summer, according to TuttoSport (via the Daily Star).
The 13-time Premier League champions, who face AFC Bournemouth on the final day of the season (Sunday) at Old Trafford, needing a victory to stand any chance of beating rivals Manchester City to fourth spot and subsequent qualification for the Champions League, have been continuously linked with a move for the highly-rated Valencia midfielder.
The 22-year-old, who has five international caps for his country and is set to star for Portugal at Euro 2016 later this year, has scored four goals and provided a further seven assists in 40 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga outfit this season.
Gomes; who began his professional career in his homeland with Benfica, is subject to interest from Juve, who have reportedly already began talks with the Spanish side over a £40m deal this summer – paying £26m up front, with a further £14m in add-ons.
However United are said to be stepping up their pursuit of the central midfielder following the news of Juventus’ advancements.
