Manchester United are reportedly ready to make a shock move for Germany international star Mesut Ozil, according to The Sun.

The Premier League side, who climbed up to sixth in the English top-flight standings last weekend following their 3-1 victory over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium, have been alerted to the Arsenal midfielder’s possible availability having failed to sign a new deal with the club.

The 28-year-old, who has 83 international caps for his country and has won the 2014 FIFA World Cup with Germany, has impressively scored seven goals and provided four assists in 14 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners so far this season.

Ozil, who arrived at the Emirates Stadium from La Liga giants Real Madrid back in September 2013 following his reported £42.5m switch, is yet to agree a new contract with Arsenal, with the central midfielder wanting a pay rise.

The report suggests their current offer of £160,000-a-week, a £20,000-a-week increase, is short of the German’s demands, allowing Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho to register an interest in the star, with United willing to offer him a whopping £250,000-a-week.
