Juan Mata
It was a toss up between the majestic midfield maestro and the impressive Chris Smalling; but the little Spaniard pipped the Englishman to this gong after his flurry of creative, dazzling and influential performances from the heart of Manchester United’s midfield so far this season. The 27-year-old, who is fast becoming a firm fan favourite at Old Trafford since his switch from defending league champions Chelsea back in January 2014, has impressively scored three and assisted four goals inside his opening ten Premier League appearances this term to help the Red Devils chase down joint-leaders Manchester City and Arsenal at the top of the table. The Spain star, who has netted against Southampton, Sunderland and Swansea City in the English top-flight this campaign, has been involved in every single game possible, bar one, for Louis van Gaal’s side this season, making Mata an ever-present star in the United line-up.
