Jose Mourinho and Manchester United fans would have been hoping for more than five wins at this stage of the Premier League season.

However, that is all United have been able to accumulate from their opening 11 games, with three draws and three losses representing a sluggish start to the Mourinho era at Old Trafford.

Defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea have questioned United’s title credentials and, given that they are already eight points adrift of Liverpool, it looks like it’ll be a tough ask for United to win the title this season.

However, a 3-1 win over Swansea prior to the international break lifted the Red Devils up to sixth in the table, and it gives them a platform to build on in the next few weeks.

Nevertheless, international football has taken centre stage in the last few days, and many United first teamers have been on duty with their national team, but who have performed the best for their country?

Here are THREE United stars from this fortnight’s international break…

Memphis Depay

It hasn’t worked out for Memphis Depay at Manchester United, but he was the star of the show as the Netherlands beat Luxembourg 3-1 on Sunday.

The 22-year-old replaced Wesley Sneijder at half-time with the score at 1-1, but the United winger changed the game by netting a header and a free-kick to secure the Dutch a second win in four qualifying matches.

The result moves them up to second in Group A, three points behind leaders France.

Paul Pogba

Although Paul Pogba didn’t make the necessary impact against the Ivory Coast on Tuesday, he played an important part in France’s 2-1 win over Sweden on an emotional night at the Stade de France on Friday.

The game marked the one year anniversary of the Paris attacks, and a minute’s silence took place to remember the 130 victims of last year’s atrocities.

On the pitch, £89 million man Pogba cancelled out Emil Forsberg’s opener 12 minutes into the second half when he headed home from Dimitri Payet’s free-kick, with the West Ham man then going on and netting the winner eight minutes later.

The victory for Didier Deschamps’ men moved them clear at the top of Group A with ten points from their opening four games.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has featured just six times for United since moving to Old Trafford in the summer, but returned to the Armenia set-up after injury ruled him out of last month’s squad.

And the 27-year-old’s presence clearly rubbed off on his teammates as they got the better of Montenegro 3-2 on Friday, in turn securing their first win of the qualification campaign.

Mkhitaryan captained the side, and will hope that they can kick-start their campaign as they look to qualify for a major tournament for the first time.
